Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
“The immediate goal is to make sure there are more people on private insurance plans. I mean, people have access to health care in America. After all, just go to an emergency room.“
Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
George Walker Bush has vetoed health insurance for the poorest of this country's children. Call your senators and representatives NOW. DEMAND this veto be overturned.

What the hell is wrong with this picture. Imagine how many people could have health care if Shrub (that's yours but I love it) didn't spend so much money on wars.
Very good post, Sew.
In fairness, this bill would have also extended coverage to middle class families w/o insurance (And I have NO problem with that!!); he based his veto on that change, calling it "a step toward socialized healthcare". Guess what, asshat? We'll have that just as soon as a Dem replaces your corporatist ass in just over a year!
Also, the extra money for the added children was to be paid for by an increase in the cigarette tax. Big tobacco is obviously far more important to this guy then out kids. . .
(/rant off)
John, that "will give bennies to the middleclass" is a strawman.
The bill is worded in such a way that that could NEVER happen.
In order for it to happen, a state would have to PROVE that it had over 99% of the eligible lower-end folks enrolled BEFORE it could REQUEST to cover any higher-end folks.
Since "eligible" is a somewhat nebulous concept in this bill, there is literally no way on earth - or in hell - that a state could do this. This is Shrub's little song and dance smoke and mirrors act.
You know what, Sewmouse. Even if a few middle class kids got covered whose parents cannot afford grossly overpriced insurance and whose jobs don't offer any, I wouldn't whine. Which would you rather see? Some fat opinionated bureaucrat flying first class rather than coach or some kid getting his/her shots and having routine checkups?
More than enough money can be found in rampant government waste right now to fund this for the next century. Close one of the black torture camps. Voila! Enough money to fund it for five years.
Trust me. Healthy kids are worth the cost. Insuring them should be a priority. I'm not sure why Mr. Bush is so damned concerned about a few higher salaried folks slipping into this program. It didn't bother him a shred when tens of millions of bucks and over one hundred thousand high end weapons went missing in Iraq. Why does the thought of one kid getting health care tie him up in knots?

Sorry to do that to you sewmouse, but I've been unable to post comments. I didn't want to write a comment and run into the same thing once again.
It's fixed.
Great post. I've been using those verses (along with a few others) for several years now.
