Where were you? (Remember When?)

Where were you when Katrina pounded NOLA?

Where were you when the towers fell?

Where were you when the Space Shuttle exploded?

Where were you when the DC10 went down on takeoff from Chicago O'Hare?

Where were you when Andrew pounded the Carolinas?

Where were you when Ronald Reagan was shot?

Where were you when Martin Luther King was shot?

Where were you when John F. Kennedy was assassinated?

Where were you when the National Guard murdered four students at Kent State?

Where were you when Richard M. Nixon resigned?

Where were you when OJ Simpson was arrested?

Where were you when Three-Mile Island's nuclear reactor malfunctioned?

Well, since you asked:

I was at work here during the weekdays that Katrina pounded NOLA, watching carefully and hoping it didn't go attack Florida where my Dad lives.

I was working for a Japanese trading company in Elk Grove, IL when the Space Shuttle exploded. I remember this because the parent company in Japan sent a very polite and courteous sympathy fax.

I was working for Saab in Schiller Park when the DC10 went down. We saw the smoke from our offices and thought it was another warehouse fire. We turned on the radio and sat in stunned silence.

I was working for a small hotel chain in their corporate office when Andrew hit.

I was driving home from work when I heard Ronnie got shot.

I was at school for both MLK and JFK's shootings.

I was in High School when the Kent State massacre happened.

I was at home watching the news with my Mom and Dad when Nixon resigned.

I was at work at that same hotel chain corporate office when we heard about the "low-speed bronco chase".

The 3-mile thing seemed to go on forever, I don't entirely remember where I was when I FIRST heard about it.

The first thing I ever remember seeing on TV was Raygun getting shot.

Those events cover a fair span of time, as for what I was doing during all of them, minding my own business and being peaceful.

I was in Alaska for the great quake in 64, it was interesting but we sure put in some long hours for a while.

A lot of those things happened when I was a kid and at that time everything was all about me. Thank god for growing up and paying attention.

Where were you when Katrina pounded NOLA? I was at work. At this very desk from which I type, in Torrance California.

Where were you when the towers fell? At the post office near LAX - and then at work, where we learned that a friend who worked for Qantas was on the first plane to hit the first tower.

Where were you when the Space Shuttle exploded? I was at Paul Klein Gallery in Chicago, discussing a project. We had the television on, and watched it happen. It was beyond surreal.

Where were you when the DC10 went down on takeoff from Chicago O'Hare? Still married, living in Evanston - in my kitchen. We had origionally been booked on that flight, and changed our dates to depart the following weekend.

Where were you when Andrew pounded the Carolinas? I don't remember.

Where were you when Ronald Reagan was shot? I don't remember.

Where were you when Martin Luther King was shot? In Ithaca, New York. I was a college student at Ithaca College.

Where were you when John F. Kennedy was assassinated? In the lunchroom at New Trier High School. And then, in biology class when the announcement came that President Kennedy was dead. I was wearing an olive green shirt-dress.

Where were you when the National Guard murdered four students at Kent State? Newly married, living in Des Plaines, Illinois.

Where were you when Richard M. Nixon resigned? Nursing my first-born child. Still in Des Plaines.

Where were you when OJ Simpson was arrested? I don't remember.

Where were you when Three-Mile Island's nuclear reactor malfunctioned? At home, in Evanston Illinois - kids in school.
