China takes lead over U.S.

They can do it in China - so why the hell can't we do it HERE?

Why is it so damn hard for us to enforce something like this? Like... if you no hable sufficient englais to make yourself understood - YOU DON'T GET TO WORK THE DRIVE-THRU AT MCD'S?

Or maybe - If you don't know enough english to process a simple order for coffee and a donut - you DON'T GET TO OWN A DUNKIN DONUTS FRANCHISE?

Or if you drive a cab - you best be able to speak totally intelligible English - or we pull your hack license?

China has the right idea. I don't agree with everything there - but THIS! This is a SUPERB idea.

Can we extend this to call centres, please? So they can actually bloody well understand you when you have just spent twenty-five minutes on hold trying to get technical support for something? Please?

I agree with you. One world, one language, one peoples.

And tell the word smiths to just shut up because we really don't need more words. We use less than a few hundred most days anyway.

There is only so many ways I need to know how to say fuck it. LOL

I think we should make some bombs and take over the world. Set up our own monarchy. But I don't know how to make bombs.

Since there are more Chinese speaking people than English speaking people, maybe we should all learn Chinese.

You know Sewmouse, My husband is Cuban when were first married and my son was about 1 we moved to Hialeah Fla. I specifically moved near a mall so I would have things to do. I could not get a job because no one spoke english. It so pissed me off that in my own country I couldn't work because they hadn't learned english. I moved back to NY shortly after. I like the diversity but I do believe people here should speak english

It would be helpful if after I wait for an hour for tech help, the person who finally answers my call spoke something more than broken English.
